Tomos Brangwyn is a former student of Geoff Smith. Tomos's instrument has to be the best looking instrument I have made, check out the great photo's on his my-space page here. It has very nicely figured quilted Sapele for the rails and a solid brass soundhole and lots of brass escussions. It's a 15 +15 with wound bass strings. Thomos was in the studio with Patrick Wolf 3 days ofter he picked up his instrument! He tells me that he has done a few more sessions since.

Tomos first saw a Dulcimer during a visit to Shirley Pegna's 'Sequins & Sawdust' musical circus production. He obtained his first instrument just a week later from a small shop in Yorkshire. Tomos has now become one of the few emerging Dulcimer players of the young generation in the UK. Having studied music classically for the piano and the Arabic Oud with Iraqi master Ahmed Mukhtar, Tomos now concentrates on the dulcimer. While taking inspiration from the music of bygone ages, Tomos also explores his passion for new music with the instrument. He is in demand as a session player and has worked with contemporary artists such as musician Patrick Wolf and London 'Dub Step' pioneer ClueKid. While extending his collaborations with contemporary artists, Tomos is also exploring early music and the repertoire of J.S. Bach. The composer was a keen player of the instrument though never performing it in public. Tomos can be contacted for bookings and collaborations at info@brangwyn.co.uk
This shot was taken before Tomos came to pick up his instrument and we decided to put Delrin bridge caps in order to achieve the slightly softer sound that Delrin gives when compared to steel bridge tops. |
