The best solution I have yet come across is the Dulcimer Pick-ups designed by Headway Amplification. A pick-up runs the entire length of each bridge. The pick-ups connect to a socket with built in active fixed e.q. pre amp. The pick-up is an active unit that is powered by a battery. The unit can then be connected to a guitar/keyboard amp or a PA system. The result is being able to play at loud volumes with a natural dulcimer sound and very low feedback possibilities.

If you would like a Headway Pick-up for your Dulcimer, It is better fit it while the instrument is under construction. It will require professoinal fitting (there are two slots to route along the length of the bridges)

For even greater control the unit can be connected to a EDB1 which gives high audio tweaking possibilities.
