Play both sides of both bridges!!

If you know anything about dulcimers you will know that usually to the right of the bass bridge are a selection of random notes!! Whats all that about? I thought.

A small shift in position of the bass bridge means you can play usefull notes to the right of the bass bridge.

All my instruments are made in my workshop in Frome, Somerset They are built using European species timber from sustainable sources. They are supplied in a sturdy bespoke card box and come supplied with 2 pairs of playing hammers, a tuning key and a handy booklet to get you started. NB fine details may change, and I may forget to update the page. I use different inlays from time to time. If you have particular requirements etc email me.

This is the baby of the pro range at present and is mini beauty and nicely constructed instrument. It plays in G C and D. For it's size it has a good volume, outperforming some larger instruments. The instrument has an integral carrying handle. Brass nuts (sometimes referred to as side bridges) and features Delrin bridge caps as standard although you could chose to have steel as an alternative, for a more traditional sound. The early Dulcimer of the very late Medieval and early renaissance period would have been no bigger than this. Tim's Dulcimers are unique in having a playing portion to the right of the bass bridge of notes 2 octaves higher than the left.

DulCimbalom - 30 pairs of strings £1300

Large photo of Trapezoidal instrument

The Cimbalom is a chromatic instrument and is worth considering instead of a chromatic Dulcimer. Particularly so if you would like to play eastern European music. The tuning layout is quite different from a Dulcimer. Dulcimers in the past never chromatic instruments. So a chromatic Dulcimers would be a hybrid instrument. The instrument has 8 pairs of copper wound bass strings forming part of the lower register. The traditional cimbalom tuning layout has been employed with a slight modification. The instrument has 3 main bridges and three smaller bridges.
